What is Dance?

In all honesty, there is no straight answer as dance can be many things for different people but let’s start with a simple action that most of us are familiar with: walking. To walk, one must fall, shift the weight and catch it. You repeat this action repeatedly, and you’ll have a rhythm; sometimes, the rhythm and tempo change depending on the circumstances and the obstacles you may encounter on your path.
How we fall and catch is individual, but to move from a place, one must fall.
Try it if you don’t believe it.

You have just started the process of creation: questioning, innovating and improving one’s knowledge of what we believe is possible or not. This process may have led you to find a new way to move. You have choreographed your body to behave in an unusual manner.

So in simple terms, all dance is just falling and catching your weight in space. The technicality and complexity of dance are the way you decide to fall and catch your fall.
The journey between those two actions is filled with creativity and the only limitation to that creativity is the dancer themselves.

Everyone can dance, we do it every day sometimes we just need to notice it.
